How well do the documents convert?
Most documents convert with perfect fidelity as the conversion engine is based on MS-Office. If you have any concerns about how well your specific documents are converted then please download the free trial version and have a look.
Are there any common known issues with converted documents?
Any known issues are listed in the Release Notes for the current version.
When will you start supporting file format xxx?
We are constantly adding support for new file formats. We are currently supporting MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InfoPath, Visio and MS-Publisher. The next release will add support for HTML and TIFF based content.
When will you include support for my language?
Our prioritisation for implementation of new languages is driven by customer demand. If you would like to see support for a particular language then please contact us or leave a message in the relevant forum.
As all our software makes use of SharePoint's 'resource file mechanism' you have the option to create your own translation. Here are some helpful pointers:
- Translations are stored in '12\Config\Resources\MuhimbiPDFConverter.*' and '12\Template\Features\Muhimbi.PDFConverter\Resources' where '12' is 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12'.
- Make sure all text is 'XML Encoded ('&' becomes '&', '<' becomes '<' and '>' becomes '>').
- For additional details see this blog posting.
- Make sure the modified / added resource files are copied to all Web Front End (WFE) Servers in the farm.
- On each WFE activate the new resources by issuing the following command: '12\bin\stsadm -o copyappbincontent'.
If you want your translations to be included in future releases then please send your modified files to support@muhimbi.com. If we decide to include your translation then you will receive a voucher that will give you a significant discount on future purchases.
Do I need to install any software on our desktops or Acrobat / MS-Word on my servers?
There is no need to deploy any client side software or install Adobe Acrobat on the server. However MS-Office 2007 / 2010 must be installed on the server that runs the Conversion Service. Full details can be found in the administration guide.
Where do I report bugs?
The best place to report a bug is in the relevant forum. When reporting a bug please be as specific as possible and if possible include screenshots, event log entries, the version of SharePoint used, the version of our software used and steps to reproduce the problem. If the bug is specific to a particular document then please send the document as well. Naturally we will treat each document as confidential.
Where do I make feature requests?
The prioritisation of new features is driven by our customers. If you are keen to see a particular new feature then please let us know by posting a message in the relevant forum.
What is the difference between a PDF Converter for SharePoint and a PDF Converter Services license?
The PDF Converter for SharePoint as well as the PDF Converter Services share a common conversion engine. However, these are two separate products and licensed accordingly. The PDF Converter for SharePoint may only be used from SharePoint based environments whereas the PDF Converter Services may be used from any environment including SharePoint, Java, .NET and other web services capable systems.
Make sure you purchase the correct product based on your needs and environment. If you are already licensed for the PDF Converter for SharePoint and wish to use it from non-SharePoint based environments as well then please contact us and we’ll provide a competitive upgrade code.
